Are you in search of a way to moisturize your natural hair? Is the harsh winter causing you hair to dry up? Let’s be honest, weather in places such as Chicago, the weather is not nice to hair. It is important to be faithful with your regimen, focus on your hair’s health and make sure that it is properly moisturized.

There are many practices and techniques which I have implemented, they have proven really been beneficial. Since being more consistent with my regimen to promote healthier hair, the noticeable difference in the moisture levels of my hair is tremendous. Following are few tips and pointers to help you moisturize your natural hair.

Tips for Moisturizing Natural Hair | Pre Shampoo Treatments

These treatments are done by rubbing some oil into your hair before you shower. This helps not only to protect but also to nourish your hair, this is also a great way to help you untangle your hair. Sweet almond oil or grape seed oil are my personal favorites.

Tips for Moisturizing Natural Hair | Bag It

For this method, all you have to do is place some water based leave in conditioner on your hair. After it is thoroughly applied, put on a plastic cap on for for ten to fifteen minutes. This basically helps to trap in the moisture; I refer to it as the baggy method.

Tips for Moisturizing Natural Hair | Deep Condition On A Regular Basis

I bet you have heard of deep conditioning a thousand times. There is a very good reason for this. Deep conditioning helps the nutrients and moisture to penetrate your strands of hair. It is important to make sure that the conditioner is not being placed on the scalp. If you have noticed any build up, it may be due to that. By using a plastic cap and sitting under a hooded steamer or dryer you will get the most out of this treatment.

Tips for Moisturizing Natural Hair | Use Steam or Heat

I love steaming! It really helps to bring back the moisture into your hair. When deep conditioning I also apply heat to assist the conditioner in penetrating my strands. There are many sources on how to steam natural hair.

Tips for Moisturizing Natural Hair | The LOC Method

This is a method I use every time I wash my locks. By sealing in the moisture, this method helps to keep your hair moisturized. L stands for leave in (my leave in treatments are liquid based), O stands for oil and C stands for Cream.
